Go see it. I went last night. 300 is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. No spoilers here, 300 is about the battle of Thermopylae, where 300 Spartans backed by 700 or so other Greeks held off an entire Persian army at it's peak.
This movie is brutal and graphic, so go in with no illusions. How in Hell it got through the Hollywood lefty sensors I have no idea. It has the leader of an army trying to save his land. It has a populace against the war, unwilling to fight. It has the politicians playing both sides against the middle in order to gain more power. It is a film about heroics, and valor, the will to win, and the courage not to surrender.

That's why I was so surprised. Frank Miller (the graphic artist) hung out at Riley's while doing this film as well as Sin City. Really nice guy.
