Infectious, A 100 Word Story

The world changed on a Thursday.
That just seemed wrong.  Thursdays are pub quiz or game night.  Thursdays should not signal the apocalypse.
One diseased patient.  One infected bite. One unbelievable contagion that swept the planet.
Game over.
Jackson shuffled along the empty road.  It had been days since he'd eaten or even seen a living soul.
Through his blurred vision he caught movement.  It was one of them.  Immediately his stumbling walk became a run.
Too late he was seen as he crashed into the group of refugees and began to rip the living flesh from their screaming bodies.

Clowning Around, A 100 Word Story

Wrinkles the Clown was known all over the tri-state area. Kids parties, carnivals, He even did a stint with Ringling Brothers in his younger days. Everyone around here swore thst Wrinkles was the best around. He was a consummate professional, but more than that, he was my father. He taught me everything I know from juggling to tumbling. He wanted me to be as good as he was, better even, and I work at it every day. Everywhere I go people know I’m Wrinkle’s progeny, from my baggy pants to my spinning tie… Plus, I have his nose. “Honk, honk!”

Hijacker, A 100 Word Legend

Dan Cooper lit a Raleigh cigarette as he purchased his plane ticket FOR $18.52. The day before Thanksgiving, 39 years ago today.

After boarding, he ordered a bourbon and 7up and lit another Raleigh.

He slipped the blonde stewardess a note… She pocketed it without looking.

Dan called her back. “You need to read that.”

She did, and then he showed her the bomb.

The plane landed, let the passengers go and took off again with $200,000 and 4 parachutes.

He hadn’t planned on the storm…

8:10 pm he walked down the back stairs of the plane and into history.

Brainless, A 100 Word Story

The dreaded Z virus that consumed the human race and zombiefied everyone had worked its course. Most of the normal people were dead, and now even the zombies were disappearing due to starvation.

This confronted Chad the chipmunk none at all. He was fairly indifferent about humans anyway except for the drunken biker who killed several of his cousins one cold night.

The problem was the z virus had mutated to the animal kingdom… And in chipmunk kind it was so much worse. He watched the horde of zombies approaching him… Their high pitched chipmunk voices repeating one word…

“NUUUUTSSS!”

When In Rome, A 100 Word Story

It’s 2009 by the Julian calendar and the Roman Empire is complete. Well maintained roads circle all the known earth and pax romana is kept by the legions.
We were settling in to watch the weekly gladiator bouts on our telescreens when there was a news announcement. Caeser and Emperor Agustus Arelius had died of a massive coronary and left no heir.
Luckily the corporation Pomum had created a database of the greatest emperors' words and thoughts over the last twenty centuries.
With a new user friendly touch screen interface they have introduced the latest in world rule…
The iClaudius.

Indian Burn, A 100 Word Infomercial

Up in the Dakotas there is a fine culinary school. Rivaling any cordon bleu school in the world, it focuses on Native American cooking. Using only native plants and animals, they will teach you to prepare mouth watering dishes varying from braised bison with black walnut dusting to flank of bighorn sheep with field mint.
These trusted techniques are ancient and unusual, using tools of bone and antler to prepare and cooking directly over an open fire pit. It’s a hard course… But it’s the only place on the planet where you can become a true to life Sioux chef.

Mission #2, A 100 Word Story

The landing party had just materialized on an uncharted alien planet when the captain grabbed his stomach. The all too familiar cramps wracked his body.
The captain looked to his first officer imploringly. After scanning the entire area with his tricorder, Spock looked up and shook his head in the negative.
“Isn’t… There anything… You can do, Bones?”
“Sorry Jim,” The doctor replied, “It’s just the way the transporter affects you”.
The captain nodded and rushed behind an outcropping of rocks, dropping trou as he ran.
Captain Kirk of the USS Enterprise… Boldly going where no man has gone before.

The Gathering, A 100 Word Story

It’s good to see so many old familiar faces. I’m surprised at how many people showed up anyway. I suppose it’s hard to turn down an invitation to a gathering like this no matter who the guest of honor is. Still, there are a few who couldn’t make it, or wouldn’t come. I can’t say I’m not a little disappointed, but it’s entirely too late to worry about it now.
Everyone has come by to see me, and most have had a few kind words to say.
I suppose I can go now. Close the lid and take me away.

Sushi, a 100 word poem

Tonight I’m going, if you please
Out to eat like Japanese
On each and every single dish
Will be a serving of raw fish
Good enough to make you cry
Tuna, eel and octopi
I’ll be cool, so not cocky
As I sip a cup of good hot sake
And drink a few ice cold Asahi
Munching on some sliced up mahi
Wasabi, ginger and sauce of soy
Make Asian eating such a joy
Top it off with a frozen dream
A bowl of green tea ice cream
Life for me is keen and peachy
Tonight I’m eating at Kenichi

The Snowman Cometh, A 100 Word Story

Santa stood in the doorway of the North Pole’s walk-in freezer completely totally aghast.
It was all laid out in front of him… The whole scene just broke his heart.
Elves were sitting around, wild eyed and stoned. In the center of the freezer was a small table with a mirror top. There were razorblades and rolled up Christmas cards.
Worst of all was Frosty… His button nose covered in a fine white powder… His coal eyes glazed over… a kilo of Columbia’s finest in that old silk hat…
It was true… They were right… Frosty really was the snowman.

Unbearable, A 100 Word Story

It was nearing the Christmas season in the great white north. The caribou galloped and pranced on the tundra. Further north the ice floes sparkled and created a prism of colors on the snow.
Randy could hardly stand it. He moped around his territory grumpy and grouchy. He was far more surly than normal. Even the seal he had for dinner didn’t seem to be as tasty. He was a solitary animal anyway, but this time of year it was worse. “The damn grizzlies have it easy”, he thought to himself.
The Holidays are always rough for a bi-polar bear.
