Next Year's Model

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

This year was a vast improvement over '06. But I have found that you can't dig yourself out of one hole without creating others. I don't really do resolutions, and I realized around June that last year's resolution was kind of a cop out anyway... Do more, get more... Bah!

This year I'm gonna focus on small stuff. One thing at a time, one small step at a time. Fix one thing then move on.

I think I'll start by getting my Jeep inspected and painting the kitchen. After that, who knows?

Everyone have a safe and happy celebration tonight, and may the worst of the coming year be better than the best of the past ones.

Reel Lines (23) Film Festival

Jason Bourne: Jason Bourne is dead, you hear me? He drowned two weeks ago. You're gonna go tell 'em that Jason Bourne is dead, you understand?
Conklin: Where are you gonna go?
Jason Bourne: I swear to God, if I even feel somebody behind me, there is no measure to how fast and how hard I will bring this fight to your doorstep. I'm on my own side now.

Tom Cronin: He's making his first mistake.
Nicky: It's not a mistake. They don't make mistakes. They don't do random. There's always an objective. Always a target.
Pamela Landy: The objectives and targets always came from us. Who's giving them to him now?
Nicky: Scary version? He is.

Pamela Landy: David. Why don't you come in with me? It'll be better if we do this together.
Jason Bourne: No. This is where it started for me. This is where it ends.

Best Of The Best

I went back to the Best Buy near work yesterday. Whereas I will berate bad service, I also laud good service. I went to thank the manager from last night. Unfortunately he was at lunch. The manager on duty was equally friendly, and after hearing my story exchanged both DVD's for me, for the more expensive version, at an even trade. I offered to pay the difference, but they wouldn't let me. Best Buy in general is off my shit list, but it'll be a long time before I go back to the one by my house.
My hat is off to Lisa, Mike and Wes at the Best Buy in Georgetown, Texas. Good people, every one.

Worst Of The Best

Let me start by saying, I always used to like Best Buy. I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of electronics and appliances from them over the years. They managed to lose my business over $10. Ten bucks and they will be hard pressed to get my business back. Not that I think they care.

I recieved a couple of DVD's for christmas. The person who got them for me got full-screen editions. In case you don't know, full screen is square like a TV set, wide screen is like you see them at the movies. with a full screen version you lose the extra stuff in the bacground on the edges. If you're not a movie buff you'll never understand, if you are, then, well...

So I took these movies to the Best Buy near work. I have to say the associates there were friendly. They told me to find the movies and we'd exchange. They only had the more expensive 2 disk versions in stock. It would cost me $15 to exchange for those. Not wanting to pay the difference I thanked them and headed for the Best Buy near my house.

Knowing the routine now I went ahead and found the movies I needed in wide screen and went to the return counter. The guy there said, "No. We can't do a straight up exchange. I can only give you credit for the lowest price they've sold for over the entire holiday season"

Short story long, if I was to try to buy these movies today they would be $14.99 and $19.99 in full or wide screen. Because they had been on sale two months ago he offered me credit of $7.99 and $16.99 and I'd have to pay the difference.

"But they are the same price." I said.

"But they weren't before." he countered.

"Yes they were," I said, "When they were on sale, they were both on sale, when the price went up, the price on both went up"

"That's not the way it works, do you have a reciept?" he asked

"No, I told you earlier that it was a present bought at a location in another state."

"Then I can only give you the lowest amount of credit over the entire holiday season"

Frustrated I asked to speak to a manager. He backed away from the counter, stepped back up to the counter with his hands out and said, "I AM the manager" (He was not dressed like the manager at the other store)

I picked up my movies and left.

$10. A little common courtesy. Merry Freakin' Christmas.

Roger Murtaugh: Riggs, if you think I'm gonna eat the world's lousiest Christmas turkey by myself, you're crazy.
Martin Riggs: Well, I got news for you, Rog: I'm not crazy.
Roger Murtaugh: I know.
Martin Riggs: Well, good. Let's eat.

Roger: Why didn't they plant the bomb in Trish's stove?

Riggs: Yeah. Think of all the needless suffering that could've ended there!

Roger Murtaugh: I thought you said you were gonna cut the red wire!

Martin Riggs: Well I did, didn't I?

Roger Murtaugh: No! You cut the blue wire!

Martin Riggs: Well I meant the red wire.

Roger Murtaugh: You okay, Riggs?

Martin Riggs: No, I'm NOT okay. I just had my ass kicked again.

Oh, Tannenbaum

Everyone who knows me knows that I am not a Christmas person. Years of retail sapped my christmas spirit. I think it really bothers Ma that I get so down this time of year. So, this year I'm gonna try.
I bought a tree (artificial) and lights and decorations. I decorated it all by myself. I have been catching a load of crap from friends because I picked my college colors, purple and gold, including some chocolate flavored purple candy canes and purple lights, but I think it looks good. I also bought purple wrapping paper and gold ribbon. Hey, I'm an amature at this.

It is a little strange for me. Mainly because I leave the tree plugged in and when I went to get a drink late the other night I thought my living room was on fire. That'll wake you up.

I'm trying though.
I'm really trying.

Aloha, Y'all

It's official. East Carolina got it's bowl bid.

East Carolina has accepted an invitation to play in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Sunday, Dec. 23. The game, which will be televised by ESPN and has an 8:00 p.m. EST kickoff, will match the Pirates against No. 24 Boise State (10-2).

Anyone looking for a last minute Christmas present for me can get me tickets and airfare. A hotel wouldn't hurt, but isn't necessary. I can camp.
