I'll Second That Amendment

As most of my regular readers know, I was victim to a burgulary last year. I have a sneaking suspicion that my house may be cased for future invasions from time to time. Nothing concrete mind you, just a moved flower pot here, a candy wrapper in the yard there. I have taken steps to prevent these things from happening, but I can't be around 24-7. I was happy to read this in the paper:

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry signed into law Tuesday a bill that gives Texans a stronger legal right to defend themselves with deadly force in their homes, cars and workplaces.
Both chambers of the Legislature overwhelmingly approved the measure earlier this month. The bill, backed by the National Rifle Association, states that a person has no duty to retreat from an intruder before using deadly force.
“The right to defend oneself from an imminent act of harm should not only be clearly defined in Texas law, but it is intuitive to human nature. You ought to be able to protect yourself,” Perry said, surrounded by lawmakers who pushed for the law.
This is the first bill-signing this legislative session by the Republican governor. The law takes effect Sept. 1.

You may want to take your larceny elsewhere. I won't call the cops, I'll call the coroner...

I saw it! Finally, I saw it. A year and a half ago I posted this about bumper stickers.

I'm a little disapointed that it was a Chevy Suburban instead of an old volvo, but there it was. A big ol' SUV sporting anti-republican propaganda covering the back doors from windows to trailer hitch... I saw "Hillery '08" plain as day, and so I started to read and search... There close to the bottom on the bumper (it must have been one of the first ones) "Gore 2000". That's when I knew I had it. Sure enough snuggled in between a "No blood for oil" and an "Impeach Bush" was "Kerry/Edwards 2004". Gotta say this about Austin liberals, they're tenacious.

Spring, A 100 Word Story

I love the spring.
The golden sun, the green buds, the new grass. It always reminds me of my first time.
I remember it clearly… We slipped off into the woods alone together, the smell of fresh flowers in her hair.
I was entranced by the way her skirt rippled around her knees like lapping waves. Her hazel eyes so big and round. Her lovely pink lips quivering and parting as she started to scream. The crimson flow of warm blood from her newly slit throat. There have been many since, but she was the best.
I love the spring.

300

Go see it. I went last night. 300 is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. No spoilers here, 300 is about the battle of Thermopylae, where 300 Spartans backed by 700 or so other Greeks held off an entire Persian army at it's peak.This movie is brutal and graphic, so go in with no illusions. How in Hell it got through the Hollywood lefty sensors I have no idea. It has the leader of an army trying to save his land. It has a populace against the war, unwilling to fight. It has the politicians playing both sides against the middle in order to gain more power. It is a film about heroics, and valor, the will to win, and the courage not to surrender.

Old Dead Dogs And Irish Music

Happy St. Pat's. I realize that my blog has been pretty insubstantial lately. Sorry. I've been busy. I know that if this relationship is going to work, we both have to put in the effort. I can tell by my sitemeter that you are doing your part, checking in on me every day to see if I'm still alive. Sometimes I am. I have some wonderful half written pieces that I really can't wait to share.

Truth is, drabble (100 word stories) and the fluff pieces I do are easy. All I have to do for the Reel Lines is watch an old movie. I want to do more substantial stuff, but in order to make it substantial, I have to put in more effort. There just doesn't seem to be enough time.

I do this for fun. Sometimes it isn't. In a perfect world... Well... There's no such thing.

Tonight I will go to the pub. I'll drink too much and talk too loud. I may dance. I may not. I'll try not to think about all the stuff that fills my poor brain all day and night. Why don't you guys do the same? Monday we'll kiss and make up, and I'll do some real stuff around here for you. Promise.

I still see it happening when I close my eyes. It’s like one of those old super 8 home movies… You know, all grainy and the colors don’t seem quite right. I even seem to hear that rattling, flipping noise of the old projectors.
I didn’t mean for it to happen that way. I just wanted to change shirts. I had dripped mustard on mine, so I swung by my house on the way back to work.
When that closet door popped open instinct took over. I’d change it if I could.
The bologna sandwiches in prison sure are lousy.

Fallen, A 100 Word Story

Darkness was always descending. His soul screamed out in abysmal loneliness. Hate, fear, loathing and despair plucked at his very being.
The war had been terrible, brutal and metamorphic. The destruction had been beyond belief on both sides. The rebellion had failed and failed miserably.
He gripped his chest and hyperventilated, trying to regain control of his sanity. Heaven was but a memory lost. Hell was a terrible constant.
He had been beautiful once. He had been the fairest among all the multitudes. Beauty, however, is only skin deep. Evil is unfathomable and eternal.
Lucifer was alone in the pit.
